Certificate III in Basic Health Care - Course Outline

Course Code: HLT33107

Dress: Emergency medical attire and enclosed footware appropriate to the sector.

Prerequisites:

  • English, reading, writing, comprehension and communication skills.
  • Ability to use and analyse simple data, relation and pattern, number, measurement and shape.
  • Ability to participate in small and informal groups within a virtual enterprise environment.
  • You must be capable of completing the course.
  • You must hold a current full or unrestricted Australian, Territory or International Driver's Licence.
  • You must successfully pass a Police background check
  • You must hold a current Advanced First Aid Certificate - or higher - and you must have held that certificate for at least 12 months.
  • You must have basic numeracy and literacy skills

Assessment: The assessment is based on competency, which is the ability to perform specific skills, and a combination of observation, discussion, written assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects. Students are required to attend tests and examinations as scheduled by Business Education Training Australia.

Key Units - Packaging Rules

15 competency units are required for this qualification including:

  • 5 compulsory units
  • 10 elective units

A wide range of elective units are available and may include

  • Group A electives which must be selected required for ambulance work
  • Group B electives which are recommended for medical assisting work in
    Defence
  • Group C electives which are recommended for culturally aware and respectful practice
  • Other relevant electives listed below the core units for this qualification
  • Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Health and/or Community Services Training Packages
